Abstract:
Technique of the preparation of the anhydride-terminated polyfluoroaromatic oligoimides from tetrafluorophenylene or hexafluoronaphthylene diamines and oxydiphthalic anhydride was elaborated. These compounds were used as modifiers and cohardeners for an epoxyanhydride formulation composed of resin DGEBA and isomethyltetrahydrophthalic anhydride. Curing parameters of the modified epoxy-imide formulations were investigated using DSC, DMA, and FTIR spectroscopy. The modified epoxy polymers containing the polyfluoroaromatic imide fragments have improved thermomechanical and thermooxidative characteristics and hydrophobicity. The modifiers exert a positive effect on the elastic modulus, flexural strength, and dielectric permittivity of the epoxy-anhydride polymers when their amount reaches 20-30 pbw. The anhydride-terminated polyfluoroaromatic oligoimides appears to be promising for the preparation of epoxy polymers with improved performance.
