Abstract:
The interaction of boric acid and diatomic phenols (resorcinol, hydroquinone and bisphenol A) yields boron-containing polyesters whose condensation with formaldehyde affords corresponding poly(methylene esters). The structure of oligomers is studied by IR, H-1, C-13, and B-11 NMR spectroscopy. Vicat softening temperatures of the synthesized compounds are 70-105 degrees C. All oligomers are soluble in alcohol, acetone, and DMF, except poly(methylene esters) based on bisphenol A. The molecular weights of the oligomers based on resorcinol and hydroquinone are within (1.6-4.2) x 10(3), and soluble diane oligoesters have M-n = (9-14) x 10(3).
