Abstract:
Rearrangements of the methyl substituted 1, la, 6, 6a-tetrahydrocycloprop[a]inden-6-ols (1b-d) in superacids (HSO3F-SO2FCl (A) or HSO3F-SbF5-SO3FCl (B)) are described Carbinols 1c, d rearrange into 4- and 2-methyl-1H-napthalenonium ions, respectively, even at -95-degrees-C, while carbinol 1b gives 6-methyl-1, 1a, 6, 6a-tetrahydrocycloprop[a]inden-6-yl cation (2b) which transforms into 1-methyl-3-fluorosulphonyloxy-methyleneindan-1-yl cation (5) at -25-degrees-C.
