Abstract: The activation parameters for the reactions of 4-nitrophenyl acetate with 4-chlorophenol and benzenethiol in the presence of potassium carbonate in dimethylformamide were determined. Depending on the substrate structure, the enthalpy and entropy of activation decrease in going from 4-nitrophenyl acetate to 4-nitrophenyl benzoate, while the Gibbs energy of activation increases.
