Reactions of perfluoro(3-isothiocyanato-2-methyl-2-pentene) with sulfur nucleophiles Full article

Abstract: Reaction of perfluoro(3-isothiocyanato-2-methyl-2-pentene) with 2-propanethiol or pentafluorobenzenethiol involves of nucleophilic addition at the N=C bond to give N-(3,3,3-trifluoro-1-perfluoroethyl-2-trifluoromethylpropylidene)dithiocarbamates. Subsequent treatment with triethylamine or potassium carbonate in dimethylformamide of the addition products or mixtures of perfluoro(3-isothiocyanato-2-methyl-2-pentene) with pentafluorobenzenethiol, 2-propanethiol, 1-butanethiol, 1-octanethiol, sodium diethyldithiocarbamate, or potassium O-ethyl dithiocarbonate leads to formation of the corresponding 2-substituted perfluoro(4-ethylidene-5,5-dimethyl-4,5-dihydro-1,3-thiazoles). The reaction of perfluoro(3-isothiocyanato-2-methyl-2-pentene) with benzimidazole-2-thiol in the presence triethylamine yields 1-perfluoro(4-ethylidene-5,5-dimethyl-1,3-thiazol-2-yl)-2-perfluoro(4-ethylidene,5-dimethyl-4,5-dihydro-1,3-thiazol-2-ylthio)benzimidazole. The H-1, C-13 and F-19 NMR spectra and mechanisms of formation of the products are discussed.
