Abstract: Perfluoro(3-isothiocyanato-2-methyl-2-pentene) reacts with methanol, 1-butanol, 2-methyl-1-butanol, and pentafluorophenol to afford the corresponding thiocarbamates. The same reactions in the presence of triethylamine leads to formation of mixtures of the corresponding carbamates and 2-alkoxy-4-tetrafluoroethylidene-5,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)-4,5-dihydro-1,3-thiazoles. 2-Substituted 4,5-dihydro-1,3-thiazole derivatives are also formed by treatment with K2CO3 in dimethylformamide of the above alkyl and pentafluorophenyl thiocarbamates, as well as by reaction of perfluoro(3-isothiocyanato-2-methyl-2-pentene) with alcohols, phenol, pentafluorophenol, and beta,beta,beta-trifluoroethanol in the presence of triethylamine. The NMR spectra and reaction paths are discussed.
