Abstract: Simultaneous quenching of both triplet and singlet states of 1,2,3,4-tetramethylnaphthalene by oxygen during separation of the geminate pair (1,2,3,4-tetramethylnaphthalene)/O-2, produced by 1,2,3,4-tetramethylnaphthalene endoperoxide photolysis at low temperatures observed. Fluorescence and phosphorescence relative intensity immediately after photolysis and during pair separation make it possible to obtain information about pair distribution function and its time dependence. Fluorescence and phosphorescence kinetic curves can be adequately described in terms of diffusion model. Oxygen diffusion coefficients were measured at various temperatures near 77 K.
