Abstract: We showed that new heterocyclization reactions resulting in the compounds of a unique structure and a potential biological activity proceed when hydroxyolefins of menthane and carane series are allowed to react with salicylaldehyde 1 on askanite-bentonite clay at room temperature. Slight changes in isoprenoid structure yield significantly different reaction products. (C) 1997 Elsevier Science B.V.
