Abstract: H-1, C-13, and N-15 NMR studies, including the use of the C-13 NMR deuterium perturbation method, showed that the interaction between naphthalene or its methylated derivatives and the nitrosonium cation result in the formation of pi-complexes. The chemical behaviour of these complexes was investigated; in particular, their ability to be converted into binaphthyl derivatives was established.
