Abstract: The nonlinear susceptibility of films containing J-aggregates of a dye has been observed to increase significantly upon the incorporation of clusters of noble metals. The magnitude and dispersion of the nonlinear cubic susceptibility of the composite medium have been measured near an exciton transition of the J-aggregates.
