Abstract: The synthesis of new pyrimidines containing N,N'-bis-maleimides by condensation of bis(aminophenyl)pyrimidines with maleic anhydride are described. The use of these compounds for the synthesis of thermostable polyimides is suggested. The following bis(aminophenyl)pyrimidines are used in the condensation: 2,4-bis-, 2,5-bis-, 2-phenyl-4,6-bis- and 6-phenyl-2,4-bis(p-aminophenyl)pyrimidine. All bis-maleimides obtained are light yellow small crystalline substances. These compounds dissolve in aprotic solvents and formic acid. The spectral (IR, NMR) data, melting points, yields (80-95 %) and elemental analyses data of compounds are presented. Reference for the syntheses of the starting bis(p-aminophenyl)pyrimidines are given.
