Abstract: The explanation of anomalous optical properties for 3-keto-5-alpha, 9-beta-lanost-7-ene derivatives obtained according to molecular mechanics calculations of conformations for two model ketones. Cycle A in these molecules may adopt the three low-energy conformations. The main conformation is different from usual one for other 3-ketotriterpenoids. The exact structure of typical 3-keto-5-alpha, 9-beta-lanost-7-ene derivative is determined by X-ray analysis.
