Abstract: 3-X-1,2,4-trifluoro-7-diethylamino-N-acetylphenoxazines (VII, X = F, Cl, H, Ph) have been obtained by cyclization of 4-X-2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-2'-acetylamino-5'-diethylaminodiphenyl ethers (VI) with Smiles rearrangement. The compounds (VI) were prepared by a route involving synthesis of 4-X-2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-3'-diethylaminodiphenyl ethers (III), nitrosation (nitration) of (III) and reductive acetylation of the resulting polyfluoro-2'-nitroso(nitro)-5'-diethylamino derivatives. Compounds (VII) were transformed to 3-X-1,2,4,-trifluoro-7-diethylaminophenoxazines (I) isolated as the hydrochlorides. Oxidation of 1,2,3,4-tetrafluoro-7-diethylaminophenoxazine leads to the formation of 1,2,4-trifluoro-7-diethylaminophenoxazinone-3, which shows the batochromic shift in the absorption and fluorescence spectra compared to those of non-fluorinated analogue.
