The constants of the intrachelate tautomeric equilibria of trifluoro- and trichloroacetonylpyridines in aprotic and hydroxy-containing solvents were determined by 1H, 14N, and 17O NMR spectroscopy and UV spectrophotometry. It is shown that an increase in the polarity of the solvent and transition to hydroxy-containing solvents are accompanied by a shift of the intrachelate equilibrium to favor the ylidene tautomer. © 1988 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
