Abstract:
A study was made of polymerization in glow discharge plasma of some perfluorinated compounds: perfluorobenzocyclobutene, perfluorindane, perfluorotetralin, perfluor-o-xylene, perfluoromesitylene, perfluorocyclopentene, perfluorocyclohexene and perfluorodecalin. Kinetics of formation of polymers, their elemental composition and IR spectra were examined. It was shown that an increase in the rate of formation of polymer films from perfluoraromatic compounds is due to processes, during which the breakdown of fluoraromatic rings is minimal, of nuclear condensation involving aliphatic chain segments. These segments are formed both during the rupture of aromatic rings and during the transformation of substituents (in the case of substituted compounds). © 1985 Pergamon Press Limited.
