Abstract: Intense bands of stretching vibrations are characteristic for the ER spectra of compounds of the pyrimidine series, whereas strong polarized bands of the radially symmetrical vibrations of the pyrimidine skeleton are characteristic for the Raman spectra. The band of the radially symmetrical vibration at ∼1000 cm-1 is not observed in the Raman spectra of pyrimidines having a substituent in the 5 position. © 1976 Plenum Publishing Corporation.
