The compounds Bi(4-CF3C6F4S)3 (I), Bi {2,4-(CF3)2C6F3S} 3 (II), Bi{3,5-(tert-C4H9)2-4-OH- C6H2-1-(CH2)3S}3 (III), and Sb{3,5-(tert-C4H9)2-4-OH-C 6H2-1-(CH2)3S}3 (IV) were prepared and studied by NMR, IR, and UV spectroscopy. The crystal structure of I was determined using X-ray diffraction (CAD4 diffractometer, MoK α radiation, 2027 Fhkl, R = 0.0673). The crystals of I are monoclinic: a = 13.029(2) Å, b = 24.898(4) Å, c = 8.476(1) Å, β = 103.84(1)°, space group P21/c, V = 2669.8(7) Å3, Z = 4, ρcalc = 2.379 g/cm3. The structure of I is based on monomeric molecules containing a pyramidal BiS 3 coordination core. The intermolecular contacts between the Bi and S atoms give rise to an infinite ribbon along the c axis.
