The compounds Bi(C12F9S)3 (I) and Bi(C10F7S)3 (II) have been synthesized. The molecular structure of compound I was determined by X-ray crystallography. Compound I crystallizes in the triclinic system, and the unit cell parameters are a = 6.084(1) Å, b = 17.696(4) Å, c = 19.411(5) Å, α = 115.25(1)°, β = 91.06(1)°, γ = 97.81(1)°, space group P1, V = 1866(1) Å3, Z = 2, and ρcalc = 2.226 g/cm3. The structure consists of centrosymmetric dimers. The bismuth coordination number in these dimers is four plus a lone electron pair (BiS 4 + E coordination polyhedron). This coordination polyhedron is a trigonal bipyramid with the lone pair in the equatorial plane and apical sulfur atoms. The thermal properties of the compounds have been studied.
