Perfluoroaliphatic and perfluoroaromatic europium(III) carboxylates Eu(RCO2)(3) center dot nH(2)O, where R = CF3 or CF3CF2 and n = 3; R = CF3CF2CF2 or CF3CF2CF2CF2 and n = 2; R = C6F5 and n = 1; and R = 4-CF3C6F4 and n = 2, are synthesized. The mu(eff) values of these compounds are equal to 3.1-3.2 mu B. The compounds are studied by luminescence, IR spectroscopy, and vapor-phase osmometry methods. The thermolysis of perfluorinated europium(III) carboxylates at relatively low temperatures results in the formation of EuF3.
